Teen Programming
A minyan for teens in grades 7-12 is held monthly in our Beis Medrash. This minyan was instituted and continues to be organized by our Shul's teens, who take responsibility for leading the davening, for layning, and for giving divrei Torah. A special Kiddush follows the davening. This special minyan helps develop leadership qualities in our talented and committed youth and strengthens group identity for the teens in our Shul.
Our teens enjoy other Shul activities geared specifically to their age group. For example, several times a year, Rabbi Segal invites the teens of our Shul to his home for an "Ask the Rabbi" session, an evening in which they are encouraged to bring to discussion any topic of interest and concern to them. In this informal and open forum, the teens benefit from Rabbi Segal's sensitivity to the issues they face and his intelligent and cogent approach to meeting those challenges.
In addition to the special activities geared to their age group, our teens are also integrated closely into regular Shul activities. Besides giving the d'var Torah every Shabbos at the summer family Seudah Shlishis, our teens regularly layn and lead davening on Shabbos and Yom Tov in the regular Shul minyanim.
In addition to our Shul activities, many of our teens are also active members of New England Region (NER) NCSY, which provides a large array of programming, including formal and informal learning, melave malkes, game and movie nights, "pizza and parsha" evenings, and Shabbatonim. NER NCSY's beautiful new Boston Jewish Youth Center includes a beis medrash, game room, and meeting rooms.
